South Korea came from behind to defeat the Czech Republic 2-1 in a dramatic Group A clash and kick-start their 2026 World Cup campaign with three vital points.
South Korea showed grit, composure and plenty of attacking quality as they battled back to beat the Czech Republic 2-1 in their opening Group A match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The Koreans recovered from a second-half setback to secure a crucial victory in Guadalajara.
The Czech Republic struck first when Ladislav Krejci headed home in the 59th minute, putting the Europeans in control against the run of play. But South Korea responded with determination and quality.
Midfielder Hwang In-beom levelled the score in the 67th minute after a slick attacking move, restoring belief among the Korean players and supporters. The comeback was completed 13 minutes from time when substitute Oh Hyeon-gyu finished clinically from close range to seal all three points.
South Korea dominated possession for long spells and created the better chances, while goalkeeper Kim Seung-gyu made important saves late on to deny a Czech equaliser.
The victory puts South Korea in a strong position in Group A and gives them early momentum as they chase a place in the knockout rounds.
