Tottenham manager Thomas Frank has confirmed Cristian Romero will remain club captain after the defender publicly criticized the team’s “disgraceful” lack of depth following the January transfer window.
Thomas Frank has backed Cristian Romero to continue as Tottenham captain despite the defender’s recent social media outburst.
Romero labeled the club’s recruitment strategy “disgraceful” after a series of injuries left the squad depleted following the transfer deadline.
Frank noted that while the 27-year-old makes mistakes, “Romero is 27-years-old. Is he still going to make mistakes going forward as a leader, does he do a lot of good things? Yes.”
The manager confirmed the issue was handled internally, insisting Romero remains central to his plans.
Despite the controversy and rumors of interest from Atletico Madrid, Frank emphasized the player’s long-term commitment.
“Right now, he is the captain, he has a long-term contract, we signed a new contract with him,” Frank said. Spurs now look to move past the distraction ahead of their clash with Manchester United.
