Ghana coach Otto Addo has reaffirmed his belief that only players who truly value the Black Stars should wear the national colours.
His recent comment, that Ghana must “check the commitment of each player” to preserve unity, comes as several foreign-born players impress at club level, sparking renewed talk of possible call-ups.
Among them is Callum Hudson-Odoi, the Nottingham Forest winger who has rediscovered form in the Premier League. Once courted by Ghana but hesitant to switch allegiance, Hudson-Odoi now finds himself out of England’s plans and remains eligible to represent Ghana under FIFA rules.
Addo’s stance resonates beyond Ghana, with nations like Nigeria, Senegal, and Morocco facing similar challenges as players with African roots reconsider their international futures.
For Addo, however, “pride before convenience” remains key as Ghana rebuilds ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, ensuring that unity and passion continue to define the Black Stars’ identity.
