Real Madrid players reportedly favour Jürgen Klopp over José Mourinho as the club considers candidates for its next manager.
Reports in Spain claim the Real Madrid dressing room does not want José Mourinho to return as manager, with players reportedly favouring Jürgen Klopp for the role. Journalist Gonzalo Álvarez of Cadena SER said the squad sees Klopp as a stronger option to begin a new era and succeed Álvaro Arbeloa.
Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez is said to be reviewing several candidates after two trophyless seasons. Names linked with the role include Mauricio Pochettino, Didier Deschamps and Lionel Scaloni. However, Álvarez said Klopp is viewed more positively because of his approachable style and ability to rebuild confidence within the squad.
“Mourinho is a ticking time bomb,” Álvarez said, warning that his confrontational style could lead to clashes in the current dressing room. He added, “Klopp is much more popular than Mourinho.” No final decision has been made, but reports suggest players have made their preference known.
