Santos Departs for Old Trafford in Bumper Deal
Chelsea have sold academy graduate Andrey Santos to Manchester United in a deal worth an initial £48 million, with £2 million in add-ons and a 10 percent sell-on clause attached.
The Brazilian midfielder pushed for the move himself, keen to secure more regular first-team football after starting just 13 Premier League games last season.
With Moises Caicedo firmly first choice and no European football on offer, opportunities were always going to be limited.
Given Chelsea paid only £10.2 million for Santos back in January 2023, this represents outstanding business — and it’s not the first time they’ve sold to a direct rival, following similar moves involving Kai Havertz, Noni Madueke and Kepa Arrizabalaga to Arsenal.
Garnacho Cleared to Leave
Alejandro Garnacho has been given the green light to skip the start of pre-season while a transfer is finalised. Chelsea have set his asking price at €50 million and are hopeful of wrapping up a deal within two weeks, with interest reportedly coming from the Premier League, Europe and the Saudi Pro League.
Incomings: Defenders and a New Forward
Chelsea remain locked in talks with Rayo Vallecano over left-back Pep Chavarria, though a fee hasn’t been agreed. Centre-back remains a priority too, with Crystal Palace’s Maxence Lacroix and Real Madrid academy product Jacobo Ramon (Como) both on the radar.
Up front, Strasbourg’s Valentin Barco is expected to join, while Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers remains of interest despite a stiff asking price.
Outgoings Continue to Mount
Trevoh Chalobah, Benoit Badiashile, Axel Disasi, Filip Jorgensen and several loan-listed youngsters are all being moved on as Xabi Alonso reshapes his squad for the new season.
