All three co-hosts exit 2026 World Cup at Round of 16

The United States, Mexico and Canada have all been eliminated from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, completing an unprecedented sweep of all three co-hosts at the Round of 16 stage.

Home Advantage Not Enough as All Three 2026 World Cup Co-Hosts Eliminated From Tournament

The US became the last of the trio to fall, losing 4-1 to Belgium at Lumen Field in Seattle on Monday, Punch reports. Canada had exited first, beaten 3-0 by Morocco on July 4, before Mexico fell 3-2 to England at the Estadio Azteca on Sunday, where Jude Bellingham scored twice in 98 seconds and Harry Kane converted a penalty despite England playing with 10 men.

Mexico’s exit ended their hopes of a first quarter-final since they last hosted the tournament in 1986. Coach Javier Aguirre is set to be replaced by assistant Rafael Marquez. The US exit was overshadowed by controversy over a reinstated red card against Folarin Balogun and remarks from President Donald Trump ahead of the match.

The remaining quarter-final field is made up entirely of non-host nations, including Morocco, France, Norway, Spain, Belgium, England, Argentina and either Egypt or Switzerland and Colombia.
