Diego Simeone aimed a pointed jab at Barcelona after Atletico Madrid secured a 3-2 aggregate victory to reach the Champions League semi-finals.
Despite a 2-1 second-leg loss at the Estadi Olímpic, Simeone’s side progressed, later dismissing Barcelona’s complaints regarding officiating and pitch conditions.
He remarked: “You know how great it is to be in the Champions League semi-finals. They have no idea how good it feels.”
The Argentine tactician admitted his team struggled early against Barcelona’s relentless tempo before capitalizing on their fatigue.
Simeone noted the Catalan side lacked energy late in the game, eventually resorting to direct tactics.
Reflecting on the achievement and the atmosphere of the elite competition, he added: “Phew, to be among the top four in Europe,” highlighting the gap between the two Spanish rivals.
