Harry Kane broke Steven Gerrard’s Champions League scoring record for English players, but Bayern Munich lost 5-4 to Paris Saint-Germain in a dramatic semi-final first leg.
Harry Kane set a new Champions League record for an English player after scoring in Bayern Munich’s 5-4 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in Tuesday’s semi-final first leg. The striker converted a 17th-minute penalty to become the first Englishman to score in six consecutive matches, surpassing Steven Gerrard’s previous mark of five.
The thrilling encounter at Parc des Princes saw Bayern lead early before PSG responded through Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Joao Neves and Ousmane Dembele to race into a 5-2 advantage. Kane said: “I think you saw two high-level teams out there. Two of the top teams going toe to toe.”
Bayern fought back late through Dayot Upamecano and Luis Diaz to keep the tie alive ahead of the second leg in Munich. Kane praised his side’s spirit, saying: “We fought and we clawed and we’re back in the tie,” while expressing confidence Bayern can complete the comeback at Allianz Arena.
