Barcelona president Joan Laporta says Atletico Madrid should sell Julian Alvarez given the striker’s desire to leave, insisting big clubs can’t afford unhappy players.
Laporta isn’t letting the Alvarez saga go quietly. Speaking at the World Cup, the Barcelona president told Mundo Deportivo that “a big club can’t afford to have unhappy players,” urging Atletico to cash in despite the striker still wanting out.
Atletico insist Alvarez isn’t for sale, with CEO Gil Marin reportedly rejecting even a €200 million bid. But Laporta remains confident, noting Barça’s offer is “very, very good” and that history is full of players once deemed unmoveable.
The Barcelona president added the offer has a shelf life — expiring at the end of the month, after which the club will pivot to other targets.
