Due to heightened security concerns, Luxembourg’s women’s national team will play two World Cup qualifiers against Israel in an empty stadium in Hungary.
Luxembourg’s women’s football team will play their upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Israel in Budaörs, Hungary, behind closed doors.
The decision follows an agreement between the Luxembourg, Scottish, and Belgian associations to move all Group B4 matches involving Israel to neutral territory for safety.
“Of course, we regret that we cannot play in front of our home fans, but ensuring safety is the priority,” stated director Carine Nardecchia.
The FLF coaching duo, Cristina Correia and Daniel Zirbes, noted that preparing has been difficult due to a lack of opposition footage and restricted access to Israeli websites.
Despite these hurdles and a travel-weary squad missing several key players, Luxembourg remains focused on maintaining their League B status.
“We definitely want to do better now. That hasn’t changed despite all the circumstances,” said defender Emma Kremer.
