Manuel Neuer remains confident despite poor historical record against Real Madrid

Bayern Munich captain Manuel Neuer believes “it’s our turn” to reach the Champions League final, despite historical data showing he has never kept a clean sheet in nine appearances against Real Madrid.

Manuel Neuer expressed confidence ahead of Bayern Munich’s quarter-final second leg against Real Madrid, despite a looming statistical disadvantage.

Although Bayern hold a 2-1 lead, Neuer has conceded 19 goals in nine career meetings with the Spanish giants.

Reflecting on Bayern’s evolution and their quest for a third European title under his captaincy, the veteran goalkeeper told reporters: “I think it’s our turn.”

The matchup follows a 2024 semi-final where Neuer’s late error allowed Madrid to advance. However, the 40-year-old dismissed past failures, insisting the current squad possesses the necessary potential to succeed at home.

Addressing the weight of history and the pressure of the upcoming showdown in Bavaria, Neuer remained focused on the present, stating: “It’s not about that match, because this team is different.”
