Patrick Motsepe backs corruption probe amid AFCON hosting dispute

CAF President Patrice Motsepe has welcomed an independent investigation into African football’s governance as tensions escalate over the decision to move the 2025 AFCON from Senegal to Morocco.

CAF President Patrice Motsepe has declared his support for an independent inquiry into the organization’s governance following a heated dispute over the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

The move follows the controversial decision to strip Senegal of hosting rights in favor of Morocco, a shift Dakar is currently challenging at the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Motsepe is touring West and North Africa to stabilize relations.

Speaking in Dakar, Motsepe emphasized his commitment to transparency and the rule of law within the continental body.

“We will cooperate fully with any independent inquiry,” he stated, while highlighting that corruption remains a major threat to the sport’s credibility.

He assured officials that CAF would respect the final CAS verdict, as the organization seeks to repair its image amid ongoing concerns over leadership and fairness.
