Aston Villa midfielder Morgan Rogers has been named the Europa League Player of the Season by Uefa. The 23-year-old scored and assisted in Villa’s 3-0 final win against Freiburg on Wednesday, ending the club’s 30-year major trophy drought.
According to Sporting Life, Rogers recorded three goals and five assists across 15 tournament appearances. He also played a team-high 1,088 minutes. The accolade arrives just before Rogers is expected to be named in England manager Thomas Tuchel’s World Cup squad on Friday.
Villa teammates Emiliano Martinez, John McGinn, and Emi Buendia joined Rogers in the Team of the Season, alongside Nottingham Forest duo Igor Jesus and Morato. Furthermore, Uefa’s technical panel ranked final goals from Buendia and Youri Tielemans as the competition’s fifth and seventh best strikes.
