White House World Cup task force chief Andrew Giuliani says the US could bid to host the 2038 World Cup, citing its existing infrastructure and ability to handle an expanded 64-team tournament.
Don’t be surprised if the US throws its hat back in the ring for 2038. Andrew Giuliani, executive director of the White House’s World Cup task force, said the United States could handle a future 64-team tournament as FIFA mulls expanding the format even further, BBC SPORT reports.
“Let me make sure we get through this World Cup on 19 July before we make our pitch for 2038 or other ones,” Giuliani said. The 2030 edition goes to Spain, Portugal and Morocco, with Saudi Arabia hosting in 2034 — leaving 2038 open.
He pointed to America’s existing stadiums as a major edge over rivals who’d spend “tens and tens of billions of dollars”, insisting the US has proven itself a welcoming host this summer.
