Wrexham beat Premier League side Manchester United 1-0 in a pre-season friendly at Helsinki’s Olympic Stadium, with Sam Smith scoring the only goal.
Wrexham gave the Premier League giants a pre-season bloody nose. Sam Smith struck the only goal as Phil Parkinson’s side beat Manchester United 1-0 at Helsinki’s Olympic Stadium, following a goalless draw with WisÅ‚a Kraków last weekend.
United, fielding a strong first-half XI featuring Harry Maguire, Mason Mount and new signing Andrey Santos, nearly led when Smith headed a Mount corner onto his own crossbar.
But Wrexham struck in the 39th minute — George Thomason found Lewis O’Brien, whose low cross was turned in by Smith at the back post.
Parkinson made ten changes for the second half, and despite chances for both sides, Wrexham held on for the win, according to The Leader.
