Chris Hughton reveals prostate cancer diagnosis…

LONDON — Former Tottenham and Republic of Ireland defender Chris Hughton has revealed he was diagnosed with prostate cancer last year but is now cancer-free after successful surgery.

Hughton, 67, received the diagnosis in April 2025 and underwent surgery to remove his prostate the following month. The cancer was detected early, and the operation was a success, according to the Daily Mail.

Hughton, who also managed Brighton, Newcastle, and the Ghana national team, fell into a high-risk category: over 50, with a family history of the disease, and black — one in four black men are diagnosed with prostate cancer.

“The news certainly didn’t scare me,” Hughton said. “I know everyone is different, but my first impression was ‘I’ll be fine’. I didn’t instantly think ‘this is probably just going to kill me.'”

He now wants to use his experience to raise awareness about the risks, urging men to get regular check-ups.
