UEFA suspends Prestianni for six matches over Vinicius incident

UEFA has imposed a six-match ban on Benfica’s Prestianni, with part of the sanction suspended, for discriminatory conduct in an incident involving Vinicius Junior.

UEFA have handed Benfica’s Argentine winger Gianluca Prestianni a six-match ban following a controversial incident involving Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior in their Champions League clash in Lisbon on February 17. The European governing body confirmed the suspension was imposed for “discriminatory (i.e. homophobic) conduct.”

Three of the six matches have been suspended for a two-year probationary period, meaning Prestianni will serve an immediate three-game ban. The incident occurred during Benfica’s Champions League knockout round play-off first leg against Real Madrid at the Estádio da Luz, where the Argentine was seen in a heated confrontation with the Brazilian striker.
