Liverpool’s hopes of signing one of the breakout stars of the 2026 World Cup have taken a major hit, with reports indicating that Yan Diomande has chosen Paris Saint-Germain as his preferred destination.
The 19-year-old Ivory Coast international has emerged as one of the hottest properties in world football following a sensational debut season at RB Leipzig and a string of eye-catching performances at the World Cup. Reports linked Liverpool with a bid worth around €100 million, but the move now appears in doubt after Diomande reportedly signalled his desire to join the European champions.
According to reports citing The Athletic’s David Ornstein, Diomande believes PSG offers the best platform to compete for major trophies and individual honours under coach Luis Enrique.
The winger scored 12 Bundesliga goals and added numerous assists during his breakthrough campaign after joining Leipzig from Spanish side Leganes. His rapid rise has attracted interest from several European giants, including Liverpool, PSG and Bayern Munich.
While PSG’s next move remains unclear, Liverpool may now have to turn their attention elsewhere in the transfer market as they continue searching for long-term attacking reinforcements.
