Spain striker Borja Iglesias says he will shake Donald Trump’s hand if they meet at the World Cup final despite admitting he would rather avoid the encounter.
Spain striker Borja Iglesias has admitted he will reluctantly shake United States President Donald Trump’s hand if they meet after Sunday’s 2026 FIFA World Cup final between Spain and Argentina.
Speaking ahead of the showdown at MetLife Stadium, Iglesias joked that he “doesn’t want to go to prison” and hopes any interaction with Trump is brief.
According to the Daily Mail, the Celta Vigo forward said he has no intention of creating controversy despite his well-known political views and previous public support for social justice causes.
The 33-year-old has made three substitute appearances for Spain during the tournament and is expected to provide backup again with Mikel Oyarzabal likely to start in attack.
Trump is scheduled to attend the final and present the World Cup trophy to the winners, making a meeting with players from both finalists a strong possibility.
